Let’s Get Started!

Thank you for being a part of the coalition to secure funding for meals and services for older adults.

As you know, we have a short window to achieve our funding goals during the 2025 Minnesota Legislative session. This is your call to action.

The Ask

The coalition is asking legislators to support older adults with:

  1. $11 million biennial appropriation to meet minimum nutritional needs.
  2. $2 million biennial appropriation to address transportation needs.
  3. $2 million biennial appropriation to provide support services, including assisted transportation, homemaker services and outdoor chores.
  4. Funding for a study of WRAPS Resources, a program for enhanced Adult Protective Services.

We are actively meeting with legislators and engaging authors for our bills. We are actively meeting with legislators and engaging authors for our proposal. The reception has been positive, but this is a difficult budget environment with many competing needs.

We have a ways to go to be successful and we need everyone’s participation and advocacy.

Website and materials

Our dedicated website is now live at seniorservicesmn.org. The website has information about the need for funding, resources to help with communication to your network and a place for regular updates. More resources will be added shortly.

A printable Call to Action document and our Issues Summary are available here and on the website.

This is what you can do!

  1. Contact your legislators as your organization and a coalition member and ask them to support the upcoming legislation and, if possible, co-author it.
  2. Ask members of your network to reach out to their legislators and ask for their support for senior meals and services.

Here’s a blurb you can use on your website or in email communications:

We need your help!

The 2025 Minnesota Legislature is in session, and the Senior Meals & Services Coalition has a critical funding request before them. Programs that provide meals and other services for older adults are severely underfunded and do not meet the needs of Minnesota’s oldest residents. We need your help to get funding passed this session. Please contact your Minnesota House and Senate members and ask for their support. Find contact information for your members.

Here’s a script for what you might say:

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [LOCATION].

I’m calling [emailing, writing] to urge [REP or SENATOR NAME] to support legislation that helps older adults with low incomes live independently in their homes rather than in more costly institutional settings.

A bill will soon be filed to fund meals and services for older adults. The well-being of older Minnesotans depends upon this critical funding to support our most vulnerable community members.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Thanks again for being a member of the coalition, and for all you do to support older adults.
